LDM Software Questionaire
When LNS/LDM were still married to ETHZ, we were available to acquire licenses for commercial
software at very favourable academic conditions. After the divorce, this is now over and many
software packages must be bought directly from the vendor. As PSI is usually not treated as academic,
but rather like government or business, these licenses are quite expensive. Thus we need to
find out, which licenses are still required. Below you will find a list of those software packages
which are particularly expensive. Please edit this page and add your name under each package you
really require.
For many scientific software packages PSI holds network licenses. Such licenses are free for us to use.
Network licenses operate in such a way that the program borrows a license from a central license server
on the network. Thus they come with a restriction: you need to be either at PSI or connected to PSI
via VPN for them to work. This is a problem for notebook users. They cannot use the software when not
connected at all or if they are behind a firewall which does not allow outgoing VPN. For the software
to work all the time, a standalone license for that particular notebook is required. This is usally in excess
of 1000CHF. Such packages will be marked in the list below with Network: free/ Standalone.
Please add your name only to the list if you require a standalone license.
