We have developed on the IN6 instrument at the ILL a full control system aimed at optimizing the neutron beam usage. This system consists of: 1- A Graphical User Interface which enables to control the instrument using mouse and menus. This user interface implements * experimental schedule automation, * instrument status and monitoring, * handling of experimental problems (advices, temporary solutions when waiting for problems to be solved) * on-line data anlysis and automatic fit using default and user specified function * automatic counting time lowering when statistics and fit parameters are satisfactory 2- An accurate IN6 instrument McStas simulation which may substitute the real instrument. Users may then become familiar with the experiment before coming to ILL, and compare their experimental results to simulated ones if their McStas sample model is accurate enough (powders, liquids, crystal diffraction, amorphous materials...).
