A brief introduction to CVS will be given. This will be followed by specifics of the policy which has been devised for the code maintenance to date in the Generic Data Acquisition (GDA) project. The Java based software is in use at the Daresbury SRS and is planned to control the new Diamond synchrotron beamlines also.
