The NeSSI collaboration: one size fits all analysis software

P.F. Peterson and S.D. Miller

The Neutron Software Science Initiative (NeSSI) is currently a collaboration of six user facilities in three countries to combine development efforts for data analysis software. The NeSSI group has designed scaleable software architecture for an extensible and piecewise upgradable system that facilitates phased development. Interface layers for users, security, functions, data, and computing environment have been defined. Features of the system include interchangeable user interfaces, plotting, analysis routines and the ability to run either in a distributed environment or on a single desktop. The modularity of the system allows for new, commercial, and legacy software to interoperate. The resulting system will not only support facilities, but also advance and facilitate scientific research for a broad range of users.
